Meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy ends in public discussion and no agreement

Encontro entre Trump e Zelenskyy termina em discussão pública e sem acordo

In a live televised discussion, US President Donald Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart that he should "be grateful", accusing Volodymyr Zelenskyy of being "disrespectful" and "playing with World War III".

After weeks of intense negotiations and statements between Washington and Kiev, expectations were high for the first meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

However, the meeting turned into a heated argument, live on television. And Trump says that the minerals deal with Ukraine, which brought Zelenskyy to the White House on Friday, has been canceled.

"I have concluded that President Zelenskyy is not ready for peace if America is involved, because he feels that our involvement gives him a great advantage in the negotiations," Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social this Friday, Euronews reports.

Trump added that he doesn't want any advantages from the agreement with Ukraine. "I don't want advantages, I want peace. He disrespected the United States of America in the Oval Office. He can come back when he's ready for peace."

Friday's meeting didn't seem tense at first, but it changed tone and became less diplomatic when US Vice President JD Vance told Zelenskyy that Ukraine didn't have enough people to keep fighting.

The Ukrainian president replied that JD Vance hadn't been to Ukraine to say that, and added: "Come and see".

From then on, the debate became increasingly heated. Zelenskyy stressed the need for security guarantees, which Kiev has repeatedly insisted on. Trump interrupted Zelenskyy and told him to "be grateful" for what the US had already done to help Ukraine.

"You have to be more grateful. They don't have the cards. With us, they have the cards. But without us, they don't have any cards," said Trump.
