Two Renamo bases were closed in the districts of Mocuba and Sabe, in Zambézia province, as part of the process of Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration of the party's men. The information was provided by the president of the contact group, Mirko Manzoni.
The UN Secretary-General's special envoy also highlights progress in the DDR process.
According to the document sent to our newsroom, Mirko Manzoni says that these steps bring the total number of demobilized Renamo men to around 90%.
Over the last four weeks, more than 800 former guerrillas have been demobilized and have begun their transition to civilian life.
Manzoni praises the Military Affairs Committee and the Joint Technical Groups for demonstrating professionalism in managing the process.
