The Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the National Road Fund, Angelo Macuacua, said a few days ago that the government expects to receive an additional package of 450 million dollars to continue with the subsequent phases of the rehabilitation of the EN1.
"The rehabilitation of EN1 with support from the World Bank is a project with a multi-phase based approach. So now the funding of $400 million has been approved that will attack the most critical areas of this corridor, we will have the other package in 2023, and in 2025 the remainder.
The additional packages will be 230 and 220 million, for a total of 850 million dollars,'' said the president quoted by Carta de Moçambique after the opening of the Executive Committee Meeting of the Association of African Road Maintenance Funds.
The source also explained that the EN1 project includes both rehabilitation and road maintenance. For this purpose, Macuácua explained, the contracting modality based on performance results will be adopted, in which after an initial rehabilitation period, there is a maintenance period done by the contractor for five to six years.
It is known that the World Bank has recently approved an initial $400 million in funding through the International Development Association (IDA), for the rehabilitation of the National Road Number One (EN1)
