Salim Laher, a businessman from Casa Paris, escapes an attempted kidnapping on Avenida 24 de Julho in Maputo.

Witnesses say that the attempt took place at around 7pm when a group of individuals, armed with firearms, intercepted the victim in the central median of the road, dragging him into a car.

The victim's resistance and the shouts of people nearby calling "police, police" were the determining factors in the "failure". Faced with an unsuccessful attempt, the yet-to-be-identified individuals fled.

Unsuccessful due to the victim's resistance, the criminals shot him in the leg. However, even though he was shot, he escaped the kidnapping by getting out of the trunk of the car and made his way to the vehicle that would take him to hospital.

Sources at the scene said that the victim was taken to hospital by relatives and we have information that he is in hospital, although "stable".
