Driving license issuance resumes with some new features

The National Institute of Road Transport (INATRO) resumed issuing biometric driving licenses on July 11, after the interruption verified with the departure of Brithol Michcoma for failure to pay a debt estimated at 40 million meticais.

Currently, it is the Muhlbauer High Tech International company, which produces the identity cards, that is issuing the biometric driving licenses with new features. In 21 days the company has already issued about 75,000 driving licenses.

"The new biometric driver's license has different visual characteristics, including color, the layout of the driver ID, and an increase in security features from 13 to 24," according to a press release quoted by the media.

The issuing of the new cards does not determine the immediate expiration of the cards with old characteristics, that is, they continue with the same validity.

INATRO has reduced the validity of the temporary driver's license from three months to 30 days.

Likewise, "attendance at INATRO offices should last no longer than 15 minutes and all concerns and complaints submitted should be resolved and/or clarified within a maximum of 48 hours."

To facilitate the collection of biometric driving licenses, a platform was created for prior communication via SMS to be sent to users about the status of their license.
