The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) assures that it will not tolerate illegal strikes and demonstrations carried out by some parties and citizens contesting the election results.
According to PRM spokesman Orlando Mudumane, who was speaking at a press conference in Maputo today (18), in view of the incitement speeches and demonstrations that took place on Wednesday in Nampula province, the corporation will take strict measures to prevent any acts that could disturb public peace, order and security, as well as the free movement of people and goods on national territory.
Quoted by Sunday newspaperMudumane guaranteed that all work activities in the country will be normal next Monday, the day that has been set aside by the presidential candidate supported by PODEMOS, Venâncio Mondlane, for a national demonstration.
"Necessary and justifiable coercive police measures will be taken to quell any acts of vandalism, violence and widespread public disorder, strikes and illegal demonstrations in the country," he said.
In addition, the PRM urges the political-electoral parties and other actors in general to comply with the law and respect the institutions of the state, as well as to follow the official release of the election results by the competent bodies in an atmosphere of peace, tranquillity and serenity.
