Voter registration, which kicked off on March 15, with a view to the general elections on October 9, has begun to show some progress in almost all of the country's districts. According to an analysis by the Center for Public Integrity, there was a significant improvement in the performance of the machines yesterday, Monday (01).
"There were very few malfunctions at the stations visited. In all, there were only 16 brigades with faults, out of around 500 visited, compared to more than three dozen in the first week of the census," reads the report. CIP bulletin.
During the period under review, Nampula - which was the province with the most breakdowns - Tete and Gaza only recorded one breakdown and one problem related to the oscillation or shortness of the electric current.
Meanwhile, despite an effort by the electoral authorities to repair the machines so that the process can function normally, in some brigades, voting is still inoperable due to other factors. In the village of Mithale, in Mueda, Cabo Delgado province, for example, registration has been at a standstill since Thursday due to the breakdown of a printer.
"The problem was solved yesterday, but the brigade didn't operate because the typist went to attend a funeral ceremony and the supervisor went to harvest in her agricultural field, according to police sources," says the CIP.
Also in Cabo Delgado, according to CIP, the car that was supposed to take brigade members to different villages, including Negomano, is still broken down at the Mueda STAE. In Mocímboa da Praia, no brigade has yet been set up at EP1 Pandique, according to the post distribution map. The district of Quissanga still hasn't trained any brigade members and there are no signs that voter registration will take place. The district STAE technicians still have no information about the process and are still waiting for new orders from the provincial STAE.
