General elections: Mia Couto against demonstrations before final results

Eleições gerais: Mia Couto contra manifestações antes dos resultado finais

Mozambican writer Mia Couto considers it premature at the moment to call for demonstrations and strikes.

Mia Couto believes that it is necessary to allow the electoral process to be clarified and to give time to confront the different versions and parallel counts.

In an interview with DW, Mia Couto said that electoral fraud should not be used as a pretext to invalidate the entire electoral process, but should be investigated. For Couto, the minutes and notices must be presented publicly, so that an assessment can then be made of what constitutes fraud or not.

"Let there be an acceptance on the part of everyone who is contesting the elections that the process cannot be solved by riots on the one hand, and on the other, it cannot be solved by police repression and assassinations. All this makes the electoral process unviable," he said.

The writer also argued that Mozambique needs to create a fairer order that is more true to itself
