The Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) is demanding the nullification of the voting process in the entire province of Zambézia, located in the central region of the country.
For the third largest political force, last Wednesday's (09) general elections, to choose the new President of the Republic, members of the provincial assemblies, deputies to the Assembly of the Republic and provincial governors, were marked by a series of irregularities.
In a publication by Radio France Internationale (RFI)Bruno Dramusse, the MDM party's front-runner for governor, believes that the electoral process was neither fair, free nor transparent, adding that "illicit acts were reported in Namarroi, Mocuba, Maganja da Costa, Alto-Molocue in Quelimane, in short in all the districts".
For this reason, the country's third political force believes that the election in Zambézia province should be annulled.
"The MDM at national level is working on this process so that the election is annulled in Zambezia province, because this is not the election that will bring the results that the people of Zambezia expected or hope for. So we are working to bring the truth of the election as quickly as possible and we are contesting it and will continue to do so," said Bruno Dramusse.
Meanwhile, the Quelimane District Electoral Commission has postponed the release of the preliminary results of the October 9 General Elections three times.
More than 12,000 voters in the districts of Maganja da Costa and Gilé, in Zambézia province, cast their ballots this Saturday (12) for Mozambique's sixth General Election. The late arrival of material and a boycott by polling agents demanding the payment of subsidies prevented the process from taking place in these constituencies in the country and in the diaspora on Wednesday.
