Hundreds of supporters of the New Democracy (ND) party took to the streets of Gurué on Monday to protest against the results of the mid-term polls, which gave victory to Frelimo in the repeat vote.
The president of the District Electoral Commission (CDE) in Gurué, Álvaro Camisa, announced that it was Frelimo that won the most votes in the 13 polling stations where the elections were repeated in Gurué on Sunday.
However, none of the opposition parties recognizes the official results released.
Quoted by DW, Salomão Muchanga, the president of ND, called the press on Monday to say that his party won and will not accept the results in favor of Frelimo.
"We want to repudiate with vehemence and contempt, we want to say with unshakeable determination that the people of Gurué won these elections," he said. Muchanga says that on Sunday there was electoral fraud, just like in the first vote on October 11.
"The regime of the day has convincingly used the electoral bodies to postpone the will of the people once and for all. We won't allow it. We will fight to the last consequences, to the last drop of our sweat, so that our country can get out of this democratic minimalism in which it lives."
Renamo, the country's largest party, said it had expected what happened on Sunday in Gurué. The party's list leader, Manteigas Bulaisse, said that an opposition victory would only be possible in Gurué with divine help.
Now, Bulaisse promises to go to court: "There is a possibility that these elections will be declared null and void. The results remain the same, it was a joke result. This is a disgrace," the politician lamented.
