Elections were held in a peaceful and free atmosphere

Eleições decorreram em ambiente pacífico e livre

The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, said that the October 9 general elections took place in a "successful" environment, as voters were able to exercise their civic rights peacefully.

"Mozambicans played an important role in the success of the electoral process in Mozambique, which consisted of voter registration, voter education, registration of parties and presidential candidates, the electoral campaign and the actual act of voting on October 9, 2024," it said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to Nyusi, "Mozambicans exercised their democratic right to elect and be elected and to express themselves patriotically in full freedom, in an environment full of enthusiasm, tranquillity, maturity, discipline, order and civility."

He said that there had been cooperation between international observers and the Mozambican authorities.

"The coordination between the representatives of the international community, in particular with the observers of the Mozambican electoral process, is a 'remarkable example' of friendship and cooperation," he said.
