EDM registers a milestone of new connections

Electricidade de Moçambique, E.P. (EDM) has achieved a historic milestone by making more than 300,000 new electricity connections in eleven months for the first time in its 45 years of operation, a figure that represents 94% in relation to the target set for the year 2022.

This milestone is the result of EDM's efforts to expand the National Electricity Network (REN), simplify contracting processes and reduce waiting times for new connections, as part of the Mozambican government's "Energy for All" initiative, which aims to achieve Universal Access to Electricity by 2030.

To this end, through the government, around 343 million dollars have already been mobilized to continue guaranteeing the massification of the new connections, and procurement processes are underway to hire suppliers of various materials, including consultants and contractors, to implement the works to expand the electricity grid throughout the country.

It is important to note that all of EDM's Procurement strictly observes the Corporate Governance Policy, optimizing the good practices of Integrity, Transparency and Accountability.

EDM continues to work and expects to connect 320,000 new customers across the country by the end of December this year.

In order to boost this activity and improve customer service, the company is engaged in the process of digitizing and modernizing the Public Service System and equipping the Picket Services with material and human resources, so as to meet the demands of the growing number of new electricity consumers, guarantee the provision of excellent services and, consequently, customer satisfaction.
