EDM and Korea Electric Power Corporation sign innovation memorandum

EDM e Korea Electric Power Corporation assinam memorando na área de inovação

The Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), Marcelino Gildo Alberto, and the Vice President of the Global Business Department of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), Chan-Hyuk Chun, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, June 5th.

The memorandum aims to strengthen exchanges in the areas of electricity generation, transmission and distribution, as well as combating energy losses through the use of smart meters (AMI).

A note from EDM indicates that the agreement also includes the exchange of experiences in the fields of training and technology transfer.

In this regard, the EDM delegation, also made up of the Director of Transport, Alberto Banze, the Director of the Communications and Institutional Relations Office, Stélia Neta, and a technician from the Renewable Energies Department, Isac Tsamba, visited the facilities of KEPCO's Human Resources Training Center, where they witnessed the application of cutting-edge technology in the operation of the electricity grid, at the Low, Medium and High Voltage levels.

The visit to KEPCO's Human Resources Training Center also showed EDM's Korean counterpart's ability to operate the electrical system at all voltage levels via remote control (SCADA).

"We had the opportunity to see the redundancy capacity of the power system here. In the event of a failure or breakdown, the system can be restored remotely in a short space of time, up to 10 minutes.

We therefore intend to bring this technology to Mozambique. With the current pace of national electrification, we are also focused on ensuring greater reliability and availability of energy for our customers," said EDM's CEO, quoted in the statement.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between EDM and KEPCO took place on the sidelines of the Korea-Africa Summit in Seoul, South Korea.

The event, which was attended by Heads of State and Government from the African continent, representatives of multilateral organizations and chief executives of Korean and African companies, served to establish various cooperation instruments between the continent and that Asian country.
