EDM with losses of 50 million meticais due to bad weather

The company Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) recorded losses of around 50 million meticais due to the bad weather that has affected the country, the company announced today.

Around 30,000 customers were left without electricity as a result of the floods that have affected southern and central Mozambique since the beginning of February.

In the district of Boane and the city of Maputo alone, the worst affected areas in southern Mozambique, around 4,200 families are still without electricity due to network breakdowns and cuts.

The floods and severe tropical storm Freddy knocked down 80 medium-voltage poles along eight kilometers of electricity transmission line.

According to EDM, quoted by Lusa, the electricity supply has already been restored in the provinces of Sofala and Inhambane, with the situation still to be normalized in districts of Maputo city and in some parts of the district of Boane.
