Prime Minister Benvinda Levi revealed today that the Blue Economy will contribute 11% to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) between 2019 and 2023.

The sectors that contributed most to the creation of this wealth were fishing and aquaculture, hydrocarbons, hydroelectric power and coastal and maritime tourism.

According to the Governor, these sectors accounted for more than two thirds of the Blue Economy's contribution to the national economy.

“This is an indicator that reinforces its strategic importance and its contribution to the sustainable development of our country,” he said.

She was speaking in Maputo as part of the launch of the Blue Economy Satellite Account, an instrument that will allow the real contribution of the Blue Economy to the national GDP to be measured in a structured way.

“We are certain that the data contained in the Blue Economy Satellite Account will serve as an element for planning and mobilizing more investment, both public and private, so that we can continue to maximize the sustainable use of ocean and lake resources and, consequently, accelerate our country's economic growth,” he said.
