Alfredo Bartolomeu, a Mozambican PhD student in Chemistry at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, has died, according to the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC).

The causes of his physical disappearance are still unknown.

FCTUC sent its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the student, who was originally from Nampula.

"FCTUC sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Alfredo Bartolomeu," reads the post on the faculty's Facebook page.

"No Mozambican student can hide their tears here. An exemplary young man from our land...our exemplary brother," wrote Sérgio Raimundo, who is in Coimbra.
