Robert Prevost is the new leader of the Catholic Church. The cardinal is the first American to assume the office of Supreme Pontiff, and so there are already reactions from across the Atlantic.

On Truth Social, Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, congratulated the new Pope and spoke of a "great honor" for the country.

"What a thrill and what a great honor for our country. I look forward to meeting Pope Leo XIV," said Trump. "It will be a very significant moment," he added.

Robert Prevost is 69 years old and was born in Chicago, USA. He was elected Pope on the second day of the Conclave. He chose the name Leo XIV. He is the 267th leader of the Catholic Church.
