Former US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday night his third re-candidacy for the White House and promised to "bring America back."
"In order to make America great and glorious again I am announcing tonight my candidacy for the Presidency of the United States," the billionaire said as he was cheered by a crowd at his mansion in Mar-a-Lago, Florida. "There's never been a movement like this in the world that competes with what we've been able to do. America's comeback begins now," he added.
Trump entered a lavish room full of supporters alongside his wife, Melania Trump, and was introduced as the "next President of the United States of America."
Surrounded by American flags and banners with his iconic campaign slogan 'Make America Great Again', the tycoon recalled his first term in office in idyllic fashion, describing it as a peaceful, prosperous and internationally respected country, and exaggerating his achievements as President.
"I'm running because I believe the world has yet to see the true glory this nation can have. Let's put America first again," he said. While promising "unity," Trump indicated that he will defeat "the radical left-wing Democrats who are trying to destroy the country from within."
The Republican thus vowed that the current President "will not spend another four years" in the White House: "Joe Biden personifies the failures of the left and the corruption of Washington," the former President charged. "I didn't need this, I have a good and quiet life, but we love our country and we have to save it," he said, referring to his re-candidacy.
In a reaction to the announcement of his predecessor's recandidacy, US President Joe Biden said that Trump has "failed America," in a brief message on the social network Twitter, posted from the Indonesian island of Bali, where Joe Biden is attending the G20 summit.
For his part, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Jaime Harrison, said in a statement that Trump was a failure as President and that is why he lost the election in 2020. "He will lose again," he noted quoted by Lusa. "Democrats are ready to remind Americans what Trump has brought to America: the worst jobs record since the Great Depression, billions in taxes for the wealthiest and corporations," he added.
An hour after he began his speech and already near the end, the tycoon called for the elimination of all early voting, remote voting, and the use of electronic ballots: "Only paper ballots," he advocated.
Trump also once again demanded that all votes be counted on the same election night, despite the fact that the United States has never counted all votes on the night of the ballot in a modern election, according to The New York Times.
