Housekeeper poisons employers and hides bodies for two days in Maputo

A 54-year-old citizen and his six-year-old daughter died allegedly poisoned by their housemaid. The crime took place in the Ferroviário neighborhood in Maputo city.

The 44-year-old woman had worked in the house for about two months. A native of Xai-Xai, she was also her employer's mistress. She is already accountable to the Police Republic of Mozambique (PRM), at the 14th Precinct.

The citizen does not assume the authorship of the crime. According to the defendant, last Sunday, after dinner, the child felt sick. Because of this, she administered traditional medicine and sprinkled salt in the child's room.

"I can't explain what led to their deaths. We all ate the same food. Cossa (boss) was the one who grilled the pork," he said.

The spokesperson of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique in Maputo City, Leonel Muchina, says that the accused remained with the bodies of the victims for two days and only last Tuesday shared the information with the victim's older sister.

Muchina also said that preliminary examinations by the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) point to poisoning and the woman's statements may be arguments of self-defense.
