On Thursday (24), the president of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Dom Carlos Matsinhe, mourned the death of Elvino Dias' lawyer and the head of the Podemos party, Paulo Guambe, on Friday (18).
"I would like, on behalf of the CNE, all its support bodies and myself, to strongly condemn the murder of lawyer Elvino Dias and trustee Paulo Guambe. And we would like to express our condolences to the bereaved families. What happened is reprehensible and must not be repeated. Mozambicans have a culture of peace and dialogue, even if there is a problem," he said, stressing that these were people "who were fighting and contributing to the growth of our country and our democracy".
Speaking during the presentation of the centralized election results, Matsinhe called for the case to be clarified and for security to be strengthened for all citizens.
"We would like to add our voice, as electoral bodies and as people, to the other voices demanding that this case be thoroughly examined, investigated, and that the people responsible for that macabre act be found," he appealed.
