Hidden debts: Privinvest says it will sue Filipe Nyusi after his term ends

Dívidas ocultas: Privinvest diz que vai processar Filipe Nyusi após o fim do seu mandato

Privinvest has expressed its desire to sue the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, after the end of his term in office, because it considers him to be a responsible party in the process of hidden debts.

"Privinvest will pursue these actions vigorously when he leaves office in January. This reflects the fact that the English judge has recognized that President Nyusi and his political elite have abjectly failed to act in the best interests of the people whom they (for the time being) serve," indicates the note issued by the Privinvest Group after the ruling in favour of Mozambique.

Privinvest says it has remained committed to trying to get President Nyusi to recognize the truth about what he did and what happened when Privinvest embarked on the Projects with the Republic many years ago. Fighting that battle involved a great economic and personal cost.

Today's ruling states that: "Mr. Safa was seriously ill at the time of the trial, but he nevertheless gave testimony and was cross-examined. This required courage and this courage deserves respect." That's a testimony to the founder of Privinvest.

In crucial ways, the English judge has dispelled the myths that Maputo has been trying to preserve. Today's ruling does not accept: that the debts were 'hidden' from Mozambique, or that the Projects did not respond to Mozambique's real needs, or that Privinvest did not fulfill its contractual obligations, or that Privinvest made illicit payments to a number of Mozambican officials and others.

"My judgment is that Mr. Safa and the Privinvest companies are right in saying that the Projects were not hidden from Mozambique."

"The Projects were, at all relevant times, known to, and supported by, a number of specific officials and public office holders in Mozambique, including in the Office of the President and SISE, and including President Guebuza and (both when President and when Minister of Defense) President Nyusi."

"The Privinvest Group repeatedly persisted in trying to get the Group to fulfill its obligations. In fact, there is evidence that the Group went beyond its contractual obligations, demonstrating flexibility and delivering additional services (and means) free of charge."

All the allegations made by Mozambique of corrupting former president Guebuza, his son, the former head of the Mozambican security service, a senior official in the Mozambican security service, the former national director of the Treasury, former Credit Suisse officials (criminally convicted) and others have not been proven.
