Hidden Debts: Nyusi's son bought luxury house for 17.5 million rands in SA

Dívidas Ocultas: Filho de Nyusi comprou casa de luxo por 17,5 milhões de rands na SA

Jacinto Ferrão Filipe Nyusi, the eldest son of the presidential couple, Filipe and Isaura Nyusi, has acquired a luxurious residential property for 17.5 million rands (around 52. 325, 000 meticais) in South Africa.

According to the Center for Public Integrity (CIP), the luxury property is located in Sandhurst, an elite neighborhood in Sandton, Johannesburg (Gauteng), South Africa.

Citing a report by Open Secrets, the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) says that Jacinto Nyusi bought the house in 2015. It also notes that allegations suggest that the same luxurious residence was acquired with money from the Hidden Debts.

However, in 2022, Jacinto Nyusi resold the house for eight million rands, "less than half the amount he invested in the purchase".

In an investigation published today, the NGO recalls that Jacinto Nyusi bought his first luxury house in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2014. This means that "the purchase of the second house, in 2015, took place a year after Jacinto Nyusi had bought another house, and after his father, Filipe Nyusi, had received bribes from Privinvest".

"Privinvest supported Filipe Nyusi's election campaign in the 2014 presidential race. It made a payment, on April 10, 2014, by Logistics Offshore, of USD 1 million, to an account in the name of Sunflower International Corp EZE at Emirates NB. The company understands that this payment was, in whole or in part, for the benefit of President Nyusi," recalled the CIP.
