Boosting the flow of cargo between Mozambique and Zimbabwe through the Machipanda line

The handling of goods in transit between Mozambique and Zimbabwe is now experiencing a substantial increase, with the completion in the critical area of the rehabilitation and extension works of the Machipanda Line, which connects the city of Beira to the border town of Machipanda, over a total length of 317 km.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM), Miguel Matabel, recently noted this after traveling along a 44 km radius between the Garuso and Manica stations, where the previous 14 sharp bends were reduced to four.

"This minimizes, to a large extent, previous chronic train derailments and significantly increases the speed of locomotives from ten to 60 kilometers per hour, greatly boosting the flow of wheat at the Port of Beira and Zimbabwe's ferrochrome to the international market, the flow of which had been interrupted for about 20 consecutive days due to this project," said Miguel Matabel, quoted by the newspaper Notícias.
