The electoral system and the exploitation of mineral resources in Mozambique dominated the consultation as part of the inclusive national dialogue that took place this Sunday in the South African city of Johannesburg.
On the electoral system, Mozambicans in the land of the rand suggest simplifying the processes for tabulating and disseminating election results.
For Gabriel Chaúque, a Mozambican living in the Free State, shortening the deadline for announcing the election results could be a way of easing post-election conflicts:
“If it's possible to copy other experiences and if we think that this brings us advantages, then let's copy other realities. We have seen that in other countries, after the vote and the count, the results are immediately centralized.
They don't wait many days for the results to be announced. So we have to put an end to post-election mistrust and conflicts, because we've seen in other quarters where the results are announced a day after the election,” he said.
Floriano Maneno, meanwhile, proposed that changes be made to the way MPs are elected.
The exploitation of natural resources in the country was also highlighted at the Johannesburg meeting.
Jonas Sitoe, who lives in South Africa's economic capital, argues that mineral resources should benefit the communities where they are exploited.
Proposals were also made for greater training of the Defense and Security Forces.
The public consultation held as part of the inclusive national dialogue in Johannesburg brought together members of the Mozambican community from the Free State, North West and the Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni municipalities. (RM Johannesburg)
