Twenty Malawians and six Burundians have been detained in the city of Nampula for immigration and illegal residence in Mozambican territory and are now awaiting repatriation.

According to the provincial migration authorities, the cases of the six Burundians arrested for illegal immigration are already being processed for repatriation.

Now, the Malawians intended to enter South Africa through Mozambique with fraudulently acquired Mozambican documents. This case will be referred to other competent authorities for further investigation and accountability of all those involved.

The citizens with the most cases of migratory irregularities are Chinese and Malawians.

Nampula currently has 3,496 foreigners residing legally, according to the provincial Directorate of Migration. (Source: STV)
