The President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, was arrested today after his residence was raided by several police officers.
According to the international press, the arrest took place after the President tried to implement martial law, which includes the imposition of military regulations, the closure of parliament and a ban on demonstrations.
Yoon Suk-yeol is the first sitting South Korean president to be arrested in the country's history for trying to implement martial law. Yoon accused his opponents of working for the communist regime in North Korea.
The South Korean authorities sent around 1,000 agents to the presidential residence in Seoul's Yongsan district on Wednesday morning.
The South Korean leader has been holed up in Hannam-dong's residence for weeks, having promised to "fight to the end" against efforts to oust him.
