Embezzlement at EMOSE is under investigation by the GCCC

Desvio de fundos na EMOSE está sob investigação do GCCC

A complaint about embezzlement at the Mozambican Insurance Company (EMOSE) led the Central Office for Combating Corruption (GCCC) to investigate the alleged case and ascertain its veracity.

The complaint forwarded to the GCCC by EMOSE workers accuses some employees of the company's management of mismanagement. The identities of the accused are already known to anti-corruption agents.

The complainants allege that there have been improper payments for real estate and assets, as well as misappropriation of funds for the personal sphere of some of the managers.

This is not the first case of embezzlement reported at EMOSE. Recently, some managers of this public company were found guilty by the court and ordered to return money taken, illicitly, from the state coffers.

EMOSE is a company with legal personality, financial autonomy, with the nature of a public company, directly dependent on the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The company held the monopoly of the insurance activity until 1991, when the sector was liberalized in the country, although the first private insurers did not appear until 1995.
