Part of the body of an elderly man was found separated from his head, on Wednesday, allegedly decapitated by a group of unknown people in the locality of Mapate, interior of Muidumbe district, in Cabo Delgado province.

Local sources cited by Lusa reportedly revealed that the atrocity was committed by armed men who have been terrorizing the province since October 17, 2017.

"He lived alone and also almost no one was in the neighborhood because many people left the place in fear of the latest attacks we recorded," the resident explained.

The possibility that the elderly man was beheaded by terrorists was also put forward by a former fighter of the local force, who recalled the killing of a person in that area almost a month ago.

"I want to believe that it is another terrorist action, a month ago they killed a person here in an attack and in response we managed to kill two of the insurgents," said the source from the local force, former liberation struggle fighters who support government forces in the fight against the insurgency in Cabo Delgado.
