A group of paleontologists has discovered the bones of what may be the largest dinosaur (brachiosaurus) that ever existed on the European continent, according to researchers at the University of Lisbon in Portugal.
According to Reuters, researchers found the remains of dinosaur bones in a backyard in the town of Pombal, in the district of Leiria.
The first discovery of the fossil occurred in 2012, when the owner of the house was carrying out construction work. But the start of the expert work began five years later, that is, in 2017, and was carried out by Spanish and Portuguese paleontologists.
The fossil now discovered is estimated to be about 25 meters long and lived about 145 million years ago.
The skeleton belonged to a sauropod - a group of four-legged, plant-eating dinosaur species characterized by long necks and tails, the researchers said.
