Preventive work avoided damage to the Beira Fishing Port, after the passage, a few days ago, of tropical storm Ana, following the lessons learned from previous extreme events such as "Idai", "Eloise" and "Chalane" that left their mark on that infrastructure.

The institution's director, António Remédio, said that all the shipowners were directly involved in the preventive measures for this natural disaster.

"We met with all the industrial and semi-industrial fishing owners, taking into account the information we had been receiving from the National Institute of Meteorology (INAM) and adopted measures to mitigate possible damage in order to safeguard the assets of that port complex and its users," explained António Remédio.

Consequently, pier number one, the new pier, and the Manarte pier were relieved.

The effective control of the vessels moored at the New Pier was also taken care of, at a time when most of the vessels are in the repair and maintenance phase in preparation for the next fishing season, which begins in the country in April.

On the other hand, the authorities at the Port of Beira have urged ship owners to reinforce their vessels with cables and to keep the minimum crew on board during the passage of the storm.

The buffering devices against collisions between ships and port infrastructure were consolidated, and permanent on-site monitoring was put in place to assess the level of compliance with the measures jointly outlined. Remédio was therefore pleased that during the storm no damage was recorded at the Beira Fishing Port.
