Daniel Chapo wins General Elections with 70.67% of the vote

Daniel Chapo vence Eleições Gerais com 70,67% dos votos

This afternoon, the National Electoral Commission (CNE) declared Frelimo presidential candidate Daniel Francisco Chapo the winner of the seventh General Elections held on October 9.

According to the results released by the president of the CNE, Carlos Matsinhe, presidential candidate Daniel Chapo obtained 4,912,758 votes, which corresponds to 70.67%.

According to the results announced by the CNE, PODEMOS presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane came second with 1,412,511 votes, equivalent to 20.32%.

Ossufo Momade, Renamo's presidential candidate, came third with 403,591 (5.81%) and finally, MDM presidential candidate Lutero Simango obtained 223,065 votes corresponding to 2.21%.

In these elections, the CNE revealed that of the 17,169,239 registered voters, only 7,464,822 exercised their right to vote, which corresponds to 43.48%.

Before revealing the votes for each candidate, Dom Carlos Matsinhe said that the election results of the seventh General Elections were approved by the members of the National Elections Commission (CNE) by 9 votes to 7, and were done in accordance with the notices issued by the District and Provincial Elections Commissions.
