The new President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo, has said that his government will implement policies that protect the most vulnerable and ensure that no one can live in poverty.
"I know that many of us feel that the leaders are distant, inaccessible and disconnected from the real concerns of the people. That's going to change," said Chapo in his inauguration speech.
Daniel Chapo also said that whoever holds public office must be available to listen, serve and respond to the concerns of the people. "We are here to serve and not to serve ourselves," he said.
Chapo made it clear that project managers who waste resources and jeopardize the future of this country through mismanagement will have no place in this government either.
"It is unacceptable that we return international funds for incompetence, while the people suffer for lack of these resources."
Chapo also promised to support farmers, strengthen food security and promote the export of local products.
"We are going to protect our forests and our natural resources, putting an end to the cartels that exploit the country without giving anything in return, with the connivance of Mozambicans," he said during his speech.
