Daniel Chapo says it's time to eliminate all evils, including terrorism and kidnappings

Daniel Chapo diz que é hora de eliminar todos males, incluindo o terrorismo e raptos

The President of the Republic, Daniel Francisco Chapo, challenged the Armed Forces this Friday (23) in Nacala to put an end to terrorism, kidnappings and illegal armed groups, such as the so-called naparamas, which continue to threaten Mozambique's peace and sovereignty.

"We are saying that we must put an end to terrorism, kidnappings, naparamas and other transnational crimes that affect our people," declared the Head of State, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Defense and Security Forces, during the closing ceremony of the FADM Special Operations Course.

On that occasion, Chapo called for immediate and coordinated action to guarantee a peaceful environment for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of national independence.

The Mozambican statesman stressed that effectively combating the new threats also involves updating the content taught in military training institutions, so that it reflects the contemporary challenges to state security.

"The threats are constantly changing. We need to invest in training instructors, update curricula and guarantee training adapted to the real challenges on the ground," he stressed, highlighting the joint training between Mozambican and Rwandan instructors in this edition of the course as a positive example.

He stressed that Mozambique cannot allow armed groups, kidnapping networks or destabilizing forces to jeopardize the security of the population.

"Mozambican sovereignty is priceless. And the defense of this homeland cannot be delegated. Only we Mozambicans have the responsibility to protect it," said Chapo.

Chapo defined the Special Forces as the country's elite troops, prepared to respond to highly complex challenges, such as terrorism in Cabo Delgado, organized crime and natural disasters.

"These are honorable missions. We need disciplined forces, capable of acting with precision, but also with respect for human rights," concluded the statesman, stressing that the new graduates must remain in combative readiness, acting with exemplary discipline and earning the trust of the population in the areas where they are deployed.
