The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, urges religious leaders to strengthen peace, reconciliation and social transformation in Mozambique, stressing that the country's development and stability depend on the involvement of all citizens and religious denominations.
According to Chapo, who was speaking today (06) at the 8th National Religious Conference, which took place under the slogan "Mozambique First - Each Mozambican a Messenger of Transformation, Reconciliation and Peace", reconciliation is the foundation without which peace cannot be sustained, so "each one of you is a messenger of this peace that we want to continually consolidate in Mozambique".
"The motto of this meeting is not just a set of words, it's a call to action that reminds us that the fate of our nation is not just in the hands of the rulers, but in the hands of all Mozambicans," he said, stressing that peace is a process, an unfinished project that, at all times, needs our commitment as citizens, civil society, religious denominations, political parties and the government.
For his part, the representative of the Christian Council of Mozambique (CCM), Rodrigues Dambo, said that the motto of the conference reflects "the deep desire to see the country reconciled, united and at peace".
"This is a unique opportunity for us to debate and find mechanisms that will lead all citizens to put Mozambique above any other personal, political or religious interest," he said.
Dambo added that the "Mozambique First" initiative must become a spiritual and civic commitment that inspires Mozambicans to be "messengers of peace and guardians of hope".
"We are called, through the scriptures, to transform corruption into honesty, hatred into love, selfishness into solidarity and violence into harmony," he concluded.
The representative of the Council of Religions of Mozambique, Sheik Aminuddin Ibrahim, highlighted the uniqueness of the country in bringing together different faiths for the same purpose of peace. "Nowhere else in the world do you see all religions coming together and defending a single cause. Only in Mozambique does this happen," he said.
