South African authorities announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa, returned to work today after a week in quarantine following a positive test for covid-19.
"President Cyril Ramaphosa has completed one week of isolation following his positive test for covid-19 on December 12. The President thanks all South Africans, international leaders and friends, who have sent good wishes for his recovery during this period," the South African head of state announced.
Cyril Ramaphosa, 69, who was vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson-developed vaccine last February, has remained in quarantine in Cape Town (southwestern part of the country) since testing positive for covid-19, and has delegated his duties to the country's vice president, David Mabuza, for the past week.
The South African President had mild symptoms of the disease and on the 17th the South African Presidency confirmed that he was progressing favorably.
Note that Ramaphosa's infection was confirmed a few hours after he attended a memorial service in Cape Town for former President Frederik Willem de Klerk (the Afrikaner leader who opened the door to the end of the racist "apartheid" segregation system in the early 1990s, who died last November).
