Cristiano Ronaldo is officially the top scorer of 2023

Cristiano Ronaldo é oficialmente o melhor marcador de 2023

Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo, of Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr, with 54 goals, and Temwa Chawing, of China's Wuhan, with 63, were confirmed this Monday as the top scorers for 2023.

With all the world championships and competitions over, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) made Ronaldo's and Chawing's successes official, in the case of the Portuguese after a close fight and in the case of the African long overdue, as he finished 24 goals ahead of the runner-up.

According to Tribuna, at the age of 38, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 54 goals, two more than France's Kyllian Mbappé, of Paris Saint Germain, and England's Harry Kane, of Bayern Munich, who went on competitive vacation earlier.

Norway's Erling Haaland, with 50 goals, was leading the race at the end of November, but an injury kept him out of the last seven games and he finished fourth.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 44 goals for his club and 10 for the Portuguese national team.

Argentina's Lionel Messi still holds the record for goals in a single calendar year, with 91 in 2012.

This is the second World Player of the Year award that Al Nassr players have won in recent years, as in 2019 Moroccan Abderrazak Hamdallah also won the award with 57 goals.

Temwa Chawinga scored 51 goals for her club in China and 12 for the Malawi national team, with her 63 goals clearly outstripping the 39 of Mexico's Verónica Corral, of Pachuca, and the 38 of her compatriot Kiana Palácios.
