The National Petroleum Institute (INP) believes that the energy crisis in the world is an opportunity for Mozambique and the African continent to increase exports of natural resources.
According to the National Petroleum Institute, Mozambique has considerable potential in energy resources, so it is believed that the country can become one of the main generators of clean energy with the energy crisis that the world is witnessing.
The responsible for the administration and promotion of petroleum operations at a national level sustained this Wednesday, during the Conference on Energy Transition, organized by the Mozambique Chamber of Energy, that the country is in a privileged location for exporting resources to European and Asian markets, as well as to the interland, SADC countries.
"The current global energy crisis, which includes the growing demand of the European market for energy resources and also the efforts of Asia to cope with what is price volatility in relation to them, may create opportunities for energy resources from Africa and Mozambique in particular," said the representative of the National Petroleum Institute, quoted by the portal "Profile".
It should be noted that Mozambique is frequently affected by climate change, so government authorities speak of the need to massify the use of transitional energy. The National Directorate of Renewable Energy also expects the rate of access to energy by 2024 to be 64%.
"We will have a good contribution from the participation of renewable energy, a participation that is guaranteed by the new generation plants that inject energy into the grid that is also guaranteed by off-grid electrification through mini-grids, residential solar systems made with photovoltaic resources," explained Marcelina Mataveia, deputy national director for Energy at the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy.
For the Mozambique Chamber of Energy, action is needed to ensure a secure energy transition and to combat climate change.
"We have to start thinking about ways to decarbonize the economy. This means that we will stop the production of coal, the little that still exists, it means that we have to rethink the production of gas, although it has been decided that gas is an energy of transition, but not eternal. We have to think about what transition in its true sense represents for Mozambique," appealed Florival Mucave, president of the Mozambique Chamber of Energy.
The electrification strategy in Mozambique was approved in 2018 and has universal access by 2030 as its main goal.
