Around 202,000 Mozambicans who had fled to Malawi because of the post-election demonstrations have now returned to their areas of origin after a relative calm this week.
These are residents of the Morrumbala district in Zambezia, who fled to the Malawian district of Sanje last week because of the violence that characterized the protests.
The information was revealed by the district administrator of Morrumbala, João Nhabessa, in a telephone interview with Radio Mozambique.
"We as the district government are in constant interaction with our Malawian neighbor, Sanje, which we would like to thank for this very valuable interaction. What we are doing is continuing to work to ensure that public order and security is relaxed and returns to normal," said João Nhabessa.
