The President of Egypt yesterday advocated the urgency for African countries, in coordination with international partners, to find solutions to the food crisis, which "could have dangerous consequences for peace and stability" in Africa.
"This crisis could have dangerous consequences for the peace and stability of our society, which naturally requires a package of effective decisions to coordinate our efforts with international partners and strengthen support to African countries," Abdel Fatah al-Sisi said at the opening session of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, which runs until Wednesday in Cairo in a face-to-face and virtual model.
In a taped intervention, Egypt's head of state called for measures to ensure the security of food sources and the value chain, including allowing African countries access to technologies developed in the field of agriculture.
Recalling that Egypt is hosting the 27th UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP27) in November, Sisi said it is an opportunity to strengthen efforts in this regard, since Africa is "the continent most sensitive to the consequences" of global warming.
