Covid-19: Portugal no longer requires a negative test at the borders

The Portuguese government announced Thursday that passengers wishing to enter its territory will no longer be required to present negative covid-19 tests at airports if they have already had the European Union's covid-19 digital certificate or "other proof of vaccination that has been recognized."

The end of the negative test requirement, which also applies at land borders for citizens coming from countries considered to be red or dark red risk countries, is integrated in the resolution amending the measures applicable in the framework of the covid-19 pandemic, approved by the Council of Ministers.

According to this Portuguese body, the resolution introduces "adjustments regarding the proof of vaccination to be presented for access to certain places, in accordance with the changes introduced in the decree-law regarding the covid-19 digital certificate," in which the rapid antigen tests will now be valid for 24 hours.

"These adjustments concern access to tourist or local accommodation establishments, restaurants or similar establishments, gambling establishments, casinos, bingos or similar, events, access to gyms and fitness centers," the statement said.

Access to these locations is subject to the presentation of a digital certificate in the form of a negative test or a complete vaccination scheme.

Regarding vaccination, the covid-19 digital certificate now attests to the completion of the primary vaccination series more than 14 days and less than 270 days since the last dose, with a vaccine, or the booster dose.
