The Vehicle Inspection Center announced today the suspension of the inspector who received bribe money to let a car with technical and mechanical problems pass. The technician has confessed and is also facing disciplinary proceedings.
Following the denunciation in the newspaper "O País" two weeks ago of corruption schemes at the Vehicle Inspection Center, where cars in very poor mechanical condition were approved for the road, this Tuesday, through its lawyers, the institution reacted and said that the technician who received the bribe has confessed and that measures are being taken.
"Disciplinary proceedings have been opened, he is in the defense phase and still has the right to defend himself. Once his arguments and those of the prosecution have been verified, even the opinion of the union body, although it is binding, a decision can be made," explained the lawyer for the Inspection Center, Samito Nhabangue.
The lawyer also stressed that the coach is not simply expelled, "he is suspended, he will receive his salary and after all the disciplinary proceedings, a decision will be taken that could still be an acquittal".
Because there is no corrupt without a corruptor, the Inspection Center's lawyers are looking for ways to reach the person who bribed the technician.
"We only have jurisdiction over the employee. A criminal case has been opened. The prosecutor's office will work to identify the possible corruptor, although in this case it looks more like simulation than corruption," said Samito Nhabangue.
The investigation into this corruption case is being carried out in coordination with the National Road Transport Institute.
