From January to May, two hundred and ninety people with mental disorders related to drug use were assisted in the main health units in Maputo province and reintegrated into family life.
The secretary of state in Maputo province, Judite Mussácula, said that the detoxification of addicts is the result of talks held in the communities, led by religious leaders, teachers, parents and guardians, about the harmful effects of drug use.
Mussácula was speaking yesterday in the city of Matola, as part of the celebrations for the International Day to Combat Drug Trafficking and Illicit Consumption, marked on June 25.
Quoted by Notícias, the Secretary of State said that the talks given by the multisectoral teams reached 35,000 people and police activities led to the arrest of 217 individuals for the use and sale of narcotics.
According to the source, 2.5 kilograms of cocaine, seven sachets and 22 blades of heroin, 24 rocks of rocket, seven plants, 667 sachets, 409 parcels and two bags of soruma were also seized during this period.
For his part, the provincial governor, Manuel Tule, said that as part of the fight against this evil, 335 anti-drug centers had been built and 1115 talks had been given in schools, in partnership with the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), which had resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of drugs.
