The Council of Ministers of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) discusses from today in Malawi, the promotion and deepening of regional integration, cooperation and economic developmento.
The two-day meeting will also discuss the degree of fulfillment and implementation of the decisions of the last council of ministers and the summit of heads of state, as well as the situation of the covid-19 pandemic in the SADC region.
The fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado and the operationalization of the SADC Humanitarian Operations Center based in Nacala, Mozambique, food and nutritional security situation in the region are on the agenda of this regional meeting.
The SADC heads of diplomacy, will also review the status of the implementation of the SADC Industrialization Strategy and Roadmap (2015-2063), and the annual performance report of the secretariat for the period 2021/2022, among other issues that stir the region.
The Mozambican delegation to the meeting is headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
Verónica Macamo said that the meeting is of vital importance, given the current economic and political situation that the world is experiencing.
According to Radio Mozambique, the meeting, was preceded by the meeting of the SADC Permanent Committee of Senior Officials, a body that puts forward proposals to be submitted to the Council of Ministers.
It should be noted that the SADC Council of Ministers, established under Article 11 of the Treaty of this regional political body, aims to oversee the functioning and development of member countries and ensure the proper implementation of policies and programs.
The meeting, will be chaired by Malawi's Foreign Minister, Nancy Tembo, in her capacity as Chair of the SADC Council of Ministers and Elias Magosi, SADC Executive Secretary.
