Meet Omeife, the first African humanoid robot

Conheça Omeife, o primeiro robô humanoide africano

Things from the movies have long begun to come true, and Africa is already beginning to experience futuristic scenarios. In this case, the first African humanoid robot has been brought into our world.

It is Omeife, officially presented at the world's largest technology event, Gitex, which took place in early October at the Dubai World Trade.

The humanoid robot was created by Uniccon Group of Companies, one of Nigeria's fastest growing technology start-ups, which provides eclectic and innovative technology solutions to businesses and government agencies across Africa.

Omeife, two meters tall, represents a female image, with the ability to speak eight different languages, as well as understand African culture, patterns and behavior as if it were a native.

"Currently, Omeife speaks English, French, Arabic, Kiswahili, Pidgin, Wazobia, Afrikaans and, of course, Igbo," said company founder Chuks Ekwueme.

The creators designed it to support companies by serving in the interaction o with African citizens.

The company CEO said that Omeife can also interact with specific gestures such as hand posture, smiling, and other body gestures that match the tone of the conversation.

What really underscores the Africanness built into Omeife is his ability to speak each language with a native accent, tone, and vocabulary, with detailed pronunciations of local words, phrases, and even sayings. African politeness values are also rooted in his social interaction functions.

Omeife pays attention to a specific person to keep the conversation alive and chooses his words carefully, i.e. "sifts" words, phrases and expressions that are not polite in African cultures.
