A civic education officer from the Electoral Administration Secretariat (STAE) was crushed to death by an elephant in the village of Cumela, the administrative post of Marangira, 65 kilometers from the main town.

According to the authorities quoted in the bulletin of the Center for Public Integrity (CIP), the incident happened last week, when the STAE in the district of Marrupa, in Niassa, was working hard to raise awareness among potential voters about voter registration.

However, the people of Cumela are threatening not to vote if the government doesn't chase the elephants away. The government and those in charge of the Niassa special reserve have promised to intervene.

Meanwhile, this Monday, the brigadiers, observers and citizens of the village of Lijombo 2, in the district of Mavago, Niassa, experienced panic. An inebriated police officer fired several shots in the area of the registration office, which led to the dispersal of potential voters.

The police officer, who was inebriated, began by hurling insults at the crowd before firing shots. The people present at the scene, police officers, citizens and onlookers, seeing the scene of the officer's behavior, left the scene due to the high risk of being shot.
