Commission to investigate cause of errors in primary sixth grade textbooks

The Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) has announced the establishment of a commission of inquiry to ascertain responsibility for the errors made in the Grade 6 Social Science textbook, which were due to arrive in schools starting today.

The information was shared yesterday in Maputo by the MINEDH spokesperson, Gina Guibunda, in a press conference called to announce the work that the sector is doing to remedy the problem in this book.

"There are responsibilities that must be ascertained," said Guibunda, who used the occasion to apologize to parents and guardians, students, and society, in general, for the errors in the book.

She assured that similar work will be done on other books and if flaws are detected they will also be corrected. But at the moment, according to her, the priority is the 6th grade Social Science book, which has just arrived.

"Normally, when we (teachers, school managers and pedagogical technicians from the ministry) receive the manuals we do a content check. That's how we became aware of the errors," he said.

The first public information about the errors in this book were released via social media.

Gina Guibunda also announced that the MINEDH Book Review Commission will be reviewed, in order to give it greater analytical capacity in all areas so as to prevent mistakes of this kind from being repeated.
