Cabo Delgado: Commander fires shots to contain tempers between FADM and UIR members

A commander of the National Defense Forces deployed to the northern operational theater, in Cabo Delgado province, was forced to fire to contain tempers on Friday between a member of the Armed Forces and Defense of Mozambique (FADM) and a police officer from the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR).

The shots were reportedly fired near the FADM and UIR barracks, in the town of Salaué, in the administrative post of Metoro, Ancuabe district. The population was frightened and some people left their homes. They thought it was a terrorist attack because it happened at around 10pm.

Despite the fact that the forces are in Cabo Delgado on a joint mission, the collusion has been tense, according to the portal Cartamz.

On the other hand, the source says that the Islamic State propaganda media has confirmed an attack on a village in Macomia. In a publication made public last Saturday (02), through Al-naba, the Islamic State's propaganda newspaper, the terrorists claimed responsibility for an attack on a Mozambican military barracks, in the village of Litandacua, administrative post of Chai, district of Macomia, in Cabo Delgado.

According to the newspaper Al-naba, one member of the Defense and Security Forces was killed during the attack and others fled, leaving behind some belongings, including weapons. Just last week, but without naming the location, the terrorists claimed to have beheaded a citizen in a village in the district of Muidumbe, in the north of Cabo Delgado.
