The cholera outbreak that has been affecting Mozambique since September 2022 has killed 75 people and more than 470 patients are currently hospitalized. The province of Tete, in the center of the country, has the highest incidence.
The cholera outbreak affecting eight provinces has killed 75 people, out of a total of 10,697 cases since September 2022, according to a Ministry of Health report available to Lusa on Monday.
The survey shows that 476 cholera patients are currently hospitalized and more than 10,146 have been discharged since the first cases of the current epidemic were recorded in September 2022.
Tete province, in the center of the country, has the highest incidence, with 12 districts affected, followed by Sofala (center) with nine, Niassa (north) with six and Manica (center) with five.
Cabo Delgado, Inhambane, Gaza and Zambézia have active cases of cholera in one district respectively. Cholera affects Mozambique cyclically, mainly in the rainy season, due to poor sanitation and a shortage of drinking water. (Lusa)
