The President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Dom Carlos Simão Matsinhe, warned of the need to work to prevent acts of political violence during the electoral campaign for the October 11 elections.
"We must turn this electoral period into a time for the circulation of messages of peace, harmony, concord, inclusion, tolerance, celebration and the exaltation of our young democracy," appealed the president of the CNE.
Dom Carlos Matsinhe, who was speaking this Thursday in Maputo at the opening of the MESA-REDONDA on the Appreciation and Feasibility of the Electoral Code of Conduct for Political Parties and the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, argued that the electoral process should be conducted in an upright, orderly and tolerant manner, in a harmonious environment of coexistence and peaceful coexistence between the various players.
"The Police of the Republic of Mozambique play a leading role in society, particularly during the electoral process, as they contribute directly to creating a calm, peaceful and orderly environment, and in their actions they must adopt principles of impartiality and equal treatment and opportunity among the various players," said Matsinhe.
The source reminded candidates, political parties, coalitions of political parties and groups of electorate that they enjoy equal treatment and opportunity in terms of the right to airtime on public radio and visual broadcasting services, in accordance with the parent and ordinary law, as well as the regulation on the enjoyment of the right to airtime. For this reason, stressed the president of the CNE, "they must be guided by political tolerance and adopt an orderly posture".
The Roundtable brought together key players in the electoral process, whose aim was to ensure that both the political parties' code of conduct and that of the Mozambique Republic Police mirrored the wishes of Mozambicans in the upcoming elections.
