The Maputo City Municipality and the Ministry of Land and Environment have authorized the construction of a luxury condominium in a no-go zone, violating the law and putting the coastal ecosystem at risk. Denounces Center for Public Integrity (CIP), a non-governmental organization (NGO).
The NGO warns that the work that will soon begin has already been questioned by the PGR, which, in a note sent to the Maputo municipality, called on the city council to ensure that the project does not result in "infringements" against the preservation of the environment.
However, it has not been halted. According to some environmentalists quoted by the NGO, construction in mangrove areas can lead to the destruction of the ecosystem and have drastic consequences for the environment and people's lives.
